Acupuncture
I have been using acupuncture since I qualified in 2010 and have done hundreds of treatments over the years. I have seen how effective it can be in relieving pain and promoting recovery. I love using it and seeing the positive results it can provide.
Traditional acupuncture has been used to relieve pain for hundreds of years by altering the energy flow around the body. It’s fantastic to use in conjunction with exercise programmes or manual therapy techniques.
Shirley physiotherapy is specialised in the use of Western acupuncture to help relieve aches and pains, including but not limited to:
- Low back pain
- Joint pain
- Arthritic pain
- Neck pain
- Rheumatoid arthritis and
- Headaches
- Sports injuries such as shin splints and runner’s knee
I have many years of experience providing acupuncture in the NHS, BUPA and private clinics, and a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. For more information you can visit their site www.aacp.uk.com.
Western acupuncture is used by a more scientific and evidential basis, by using the insertion of needles. By using acupuncture, we release natural pain killing and healing chemicals in our bodies.

Questions asked by our patients
What if I need to cancel an appointment?
I ask if you need to change or cancel your appointment that you give 24hrs notice. If you cannot let me know of any changes before then, you will be charged for the appointment in full.
Will I need more than 1 session?
This will depend on your specific circumstances and treatment plan. Sometimes only the initial assessment and treatment with self-management strategies is all that is required, other times such as with acupuncture or massage a course of treatment is needed.
