How common are ankle sprains? Ankle sprains are very common and will not normally need any intervention.

My ankle has become swollen after twisting it, is that normal? Yes, ankle sprains frequently swell up due to the damage of the soft tissue ligaments.

How long is the recovery time? This depends on the severity of the ankle sprain, a low-grade sprain may take a few days or a week to resolve, whereas a high-grade ankle sprain could take a number months to fully resolve.

I ask if you need to change or cancel your appointment that you give 24hrs notice. If you cannot let me know of any changes before then, you will be charged for the appointment in full.

This will depend on your specific circumstances and treatment plan. Sometimes only the initial assessment and treatment with self-management strategies is all that is required, other times such as with acupuncture or massage a course of treatment is needed.
